About Us
Life after Retirement…
When we retired we were looking forward to having time for travel, hobbies and family.
We started traveling…mostly road trips to see the beauty of the US as well as visiting family.
And we thoroughly enjoyed it. On one of our first trips, my husband gave me a digital camera and I really went crazy with it. It was so nice not to have to worry about having film and the cost of printing all of the prints…even the bad ones.
So photography became one of my first hobbies after retirement. Every place we went I took tons of pictures…learning compositon and lighting along the way. Once home I would print a few of the best from the trip and frame them…and that was great. We enjoyed looking at them and remembering the trip. (I’d never been very good about making albums previously…the prints would just end up in a box.)
As one thing leads to another…we went on a tour of England, Scotland and Wales…and of course I took lots of pictures…over 1500 of them. Once home, we enjoyed them in slideshows on the computer, but that was about it.
And then, one day while shopping at Tuesday Morning, I saw a scrapbook kit, called “Tavel”
with a cover that looked like old luggage. And that started my voyage into the world of Scrapbooking. I was amazed at all of the materials available…pages, scraps, embellishments, etc. I had so much fun doing my travel scrapbook…and finding a place for a lot of the pictures.
I enjoyed making paper scrapbooks…but then, I had an idea for a Christmas present for my husband and stepchildren. My husband has done a lot of volunteer work and even more since we retired. And he has won a lot of awards for doing this and I wanted to do a scrapbook showing these awards…and that’s when I discovered Digital Scrapbooking. With digital scrapbooking I was able to scan his awards and put in pictures from the award ceremonies as well as photos of his activities doing the volunteer work. And I could make 3 copies and just print them out. I found books that had the pages to print and then put together. That was really a hit at Christmas that year.
The next year I did digital scrapbooks for people I had worked with…gathering the photos of our various get togethers over the years from several of them. And putting it all together, ending up with about 20 pages, which I printed in multiple copies and put together in plastic pages covers in a binder cover for each of them. And since we still get together for lunch once a month, we often have photo pages to add to our books.
Since then I’ve made scrapbooks for my stepdaughter’s wedding, my daughter’s ordination and several other life events. Now I’m working on scrapbooks of my great grandsons…and since they’ll be digital, I can make copies for the grandparents as well as the parents.
So that’s my evolution from just photography to scrapbooking to digital scrapbooking. I still enjoy all of them and continue to learn about them all. So I will include articles on all as well
in this blog.
